THE P10 provisional reduction in the flagdown rate of taxicabs in Davao City officially starts today, March 16.

Passengers are urged to report or file a complaint against taxi drivers who refuse to implement the new P30 flagdown rate.

Both operators and drivers found to be violating the new rate order will be fined from P5,000 to P15,000.

The Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Davao, through operation division head Edgar Violan, said they had to move the local implementation to conduct information drive among taxi drivers in Davao City from March 9 to March 15.

"Dapat by March 16 may sign board na sila na nagsasabing minus P10 ang rate," Violan said.

The board said there is no need to recalibrate the taxi meters to reflect the new rates. Taxi drivers will only deduct P10 from the total fare. The LTFRB advised all passengers to take note of the new rates.

The LTFRB-Davao said taxi drivers and operators must follow the reduction rate or face sanctions.

If a taxi driver refuses to heed the new LTFRB en banc order, penalties under the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-001, which was implemented last year, will apply. Both the driver and operator will be fined P5,000 each for the first offense.

For the second offense, the fine is P10,000 and the taxi unit will be impounded for 30 days.

On the third offense, the driver and operator will be fined P15,000 each and the Certificate of Public conveyance (CPC) or franchise for the taxi will be revoked.

The P10 cut in the flagdown rate of taxicabs was already implemented in other areas starting on March 9.

The cut was prompted by the continuous decrease in the prices of fuel in the world market.
